Several days ago, the chapter's website had its 1,000th unique visitor since we began using Google Analytics to track the traffic on our site.Since we only began tracking visitors in December of 2008, this means that roughly 200 new people visit our site every month to see what we're up to. Comparatively, in the last 30 days, we've had 489 visitors total on the site. These are huge numbers relative to anything else ANY alumni chapter is doing including even non-sigma chi sites.
So if you have news about you, San Diego, Sigma Chi or any combination of the those, please email them to us, we'd love to have them up on the site. Additionally, if you haven't seen our site, make sure to visit, bookmark it and send the link to a friend.

On Friday June 12, 2009, the San Diego Sigma Chi Alumni Chapter proudly welcomes special guest speaker, San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders.![]()
Over the course of his 30-year career, Sanders has proven skillful at transforming organizations so that they become more effective and efficient which has been especially true during his career with the city. Jerry Sanders was elected mayor in a special run-off election held in November 2005, receiving 54% of the vote against city council member Donna Frye. Sanders is the first mayor under the new "strong mayoral" form of city government.
Before becoming Mayor, Sanders served as San Diego's Chief of Police from 1993 until 1999, capping a 26-year career with the Police Department. He streamlined the department and helped make San Diego's neighborhood-oriented policing a national model, reducing crime by 49 percent. After leaving the Police Department, Sanders became the CEO of United Way, taking over an organization that had lost some of the trust of its donors and the agencies it supported. He slashed bureaucracy, restored the organization's effectiveness and increased fundraising by almost 20 percent. In 2002, Sanders was appointed to the American Red Cross board after, amid controversy, the CEO and board of directors had been removed. He made finances transparent, oversaw major staff changes and restored the organization's credibility and trust.
Mayor Sanders is committed to accomplishing the same for the City of San Diego. San Diego is the second-largest city in California and the eighth largest city in the United States. As of 2008, our metropolitan area is the 17th-largest in the United States with a population of 3,001,072 and the 38th-largest metropolitan area in the Americas when including Tijuana, Mexico. According to Forbes the city of San Diego ranks as the fifth wealthiest in the United States.
This event is open to all. Sigma Chi's and any friends, family, etc. are all invited. The event will be $25 per person. This lunch is at our new location, the Ramada Inn-Restaurant - 5550 Kearny Mesa Rd, San Diego, CA 92111. Click HERE for directions.
Lunch will be served immediately upon arrival to the event. Mayor Sanders will begin speaking promptly at 12:15pm with plenty of time for questions after his presentation.
We look forward to seeing everyone on Friday June 12th at 11:45am SHARP!! Contact alumni chapter Scott Holtgrieve with questions at 619-892-6270 or

On April 1, 2009 the Executive Committee of the Sigma Chi Fraternity announced the 2009 recipients of the Fraternity’s Significant Sig Award. Among the many prominent members who were selected, we’re proud to announce that three of the honorees are from San Diego. These brothers are (in alphabetical order) Brig. General Michael J. Aguilar (Ret.), Brad W. Dalusio, and George w. Hauer, Jr.
Brig. General Michael J. Aguilar (Ret.) (Cal. State-Long Beach, ‘72), has a 31-year military career followed by special civilian assignments involving numerous security agencies.
Brad W. Dalusio (UCLA, ’89), is a NFL place-kicker with a 12 year career that included the Pro Bowl, 2 Super Bowls and the #2 all-time scoring record for the New York Giants.

The Significant Sig award is one of the Fraternity's highest honors. It recognizes "those alumni members whose achievements in their fields of endeavor have brought honor and prestige to the name of Sigma Chi." The Sigma Chi Fraternity has recognized more than 1,100 brothers since the Significant Sig award's inception at the 1935 Grand Chapter.
Additional brothers named as Significant Sigs in 2009 include W. Bret Bair - Fox News Anchor, Robert K. Burgess – Executive Chairman of the Board, Adobe Macromedia Software, John Darenne, Jr. – Secretary of State, Louisiana, Mark DeRosa – Major League Baseball, and David Waller – Deputy Director General United Nations.
The San Diego Sigma Chi Alumni Chapter is currently planning a banquet to honor our newly distinguished brothers along with 2009 Order of Constantine inductee Doug Johnson. Each year, the Order of Constantine recognizes a group of up to 14 Sigma Chi brothers for their commitment, dedication and service to the Fraternity. Induction into the Order of Constantine is considered to be the highest honor the Sigma Chi Fraternity can bestow upon one of its members. The honor of being named a “Constantine Sig” has been conferred on less than 500 brothers since the inception of the Order of Constantine at the 47th Grand Chapter in 1948.
Stay tuned for more details as the chapter prepares to honor Doug.

In June, the chapter proudly welcomes Mayor Jerry Sanders.
Jerry Sanders was chosen by voters to continue as the 34th Mayor of San Diego during the June 2008 primary election. Mayor Sanders enters his second term dedicated to continuing efforts to restore financial stability and accountability to the City. He will also be working to reform the City's pension system, overcome a backlog of deferred maintenance needs and to restore the City's ability to access the public finance marketplace.
During his first term in office, Mayor Sanders successfully reformed the City's financial management and reporting processes. He implemented a broad-ranging Business Process Reengineering reform effort and cut more than 700 positions from the City's payrolls. The Mayor was also successful in initiating work to repair San Diego's deteriorating water and sewer system infrastructure and has consistently increased the miles of City streets and roadways being repaired during each year in office.
Over the course of his 30-year career, Sanders has proven skillful at transforming organizations so that they become more effective and efficient. That has been especially true during his career with the City. Before becoming Mayor, Sanders served as San Diego's Chief of Police from 1993 until 1999, capping a 26-year career with the Police Department. He streamlined the department and helped make San Diego's neighborhood-oriented policing a national model, reducing crime by 49 percent.
